Alex was unable to sleep. She'd been this way for the past two hours, when lights out had first started. Demonte was probably sleeping like a rock in his room, and yet, here she was, completely restless. She could feel something... well, she didn't know. But something in New York, didn't feel right. And it was making her insane. With a self-disgusted sound, she shoved the green and brown plaid comforter away from her and jumped out of bed, then went over to her closet and quietly opened the doors. Once she was dressed, she slipped out her window, and crawled down the drain pipe, until she found her feet planted firmly on the ground.
She always closed her eyes when she did this, because of her fear of being up so many floors, and having to climb all the way down on a slinky little pipe that could break any minute, concluding to her death. Okay, that was a bit extreme, but hey, what could you do? She was a sophomore. And besides, she couldn't risk going through the house to leave, and waking up Demonte, and even if she made it, the night guard would catch her, and then she'd be screwed. Alex flipped the hood of her sweatshirt up onto her head, and jogged away from the apartments, heading for Central Park. It was warm out, despite the slight breeze that caused her hair to dance about her shoulders where it lay, so her wearing shorts was no big deal at all.
Alex took out her cell phone from inside her old converse, old being an understatement, and began texting one of her friends from school. Noticing the time on her phone for the first time as she closed out of texting, she grimaced. It was about midnight; none of her friends were awake. With a sigh, she put the phone back in her shoe, and shoved her hands in the pockets of the maroon sweatshirt that had the words FREE HUGS spreading across both sides. As she walked, she got the strangest feeling that she was being watched, and just in case, was ready to barbeque whoever it was. Something moved closeby, and out of instinct she conjured a fireball in her palm, ready to protect herself if needed.
